Can you describe Taxx.lu in a few words?

Online since 2018, taxx.lu allows you to do your income tax return in Luxembourg without any knowledge of taxation. You are guided through a simple online questionnaire that automatically adapts to your individual situation. By scanning a QR code with your mobile phone you can upload the needed certificates straight away to taxx.lu. The data from some certificates, for example your insurance certificates, is automatically imported into your tax return. No need for manual copying anymore! At the end of the process, taxx.lu calculates your tax due or return. For only 40€ you can download the official tax form already completed with your data. In addition, taxx.lu offers personalized optimization recommendations to its paying customers, detailing the possibilities on how they can optimize their tax burden and save taxes in the future. The service is available in 4 languages (DE, FR, EN, LU), including an interactive help-desk and live-chat.

What have been your development challenges, and how did you overcome them?
At the beginning of the project the greatest challenge was to comprehend the Luxemburgish tax legislation. Actually, like most other laws, the personal tax code has been adapted, completed and modified over the last decades. It is quite challenging to take such a complex material and transform it into algorithms. There are so many exceptions and special cases that you have to include. Once this was completed and successfully tested, the next major challenge was the multilingual aspect of the Luxemburgish society. Providing the entire content of the website in 4 languages, help text, live customer support and the whole marketing , can be challenging for a small startup. However, this is one of the keys of success of taxx.lu. Right now, our platform is the only way for English-speaking residents to complete their tax return on their own as the official forms are only available in German and French.
How do you see Taxx.lu evolve for the next two years?

Today, 3 years after the launch, taxx.lu is the only online platform, providing help in filing a Luxemburgish tax return and we are not resting on our laurels! Our team is working hard to make the whole process on taxx.lu even easier and quicker. We are constantly improving our OCR feature "Auto Scan" and we are thinking about all the features which are possible with "Open Banking". The idea is that by scanning all your certificates with your smartphone and giving access to your bank accounts through "Open Banking" APIs, like the ones from Luxhub, the tax return is completed automatically, without any manual entries. That is the main goal at taxx.lu: Make the Luxemburgish tax return a child's play!
