Loïc Le Foll (AG2R LA MONDIALE Épargne Patrimoniale): Wealth management - the hybrid revolution
Loïc Le Foll, Global Head of AG2R LA MONDIALE Épargne Patrimoniale, examines how digital tools and generational change are reshaping wealth advisory models in France.
Should you choose between simplicity and performance?
French savers have never been more demanding, and that is excellent news. Driven by generations Y and Z, expectations are evolving rapidly. They are no longer prepared to choose between simplicity and performance, but expect both simultaneously, without compromise. In a dynamic life insurance market, this shift is challenging traditional models and opening the door to a new approach to wealth advice. It is the defining dilemma of today’s market. On one side, bancassurers offer an integrated model that feels fluid and reassuring. Their strength lies in streamlined journeys, built on established client relationships and in-house solutions that often deliver strong results. Consequently, a large share of inflows remains concentrated in their hands. On the other side, independent advisers and open platforms provide greater flexibility and diversification, with access to a broad universe of investment vehicles, sophisticated diversification strategies and independent selection, albeit with greater management complexity. The choice therefore appears straightforward: embrace the simplicity of an integrated model, or accept greater complexity to access the best opportunities? But what if this apparent trade-off no longer existed?
Wealth advice will no longer be defined by a model, but by the ability to adapt.
How are digital and AI changing the game?
Technology is now acting as a powerful catalyst. Digital platforms and artificial intelligence make it possible to reconcile simplicity with performance. For clients, this means intuitive interfaces, clearer investment visibility, personalised allocations and greater transparency around fees and returns. For advisers, analytical and selection tools can automate much of the underlying complexity, freeing them to focus on what creates lasting value: advice. The outcome is significant. Complexity does not disappear; it becomes largely invisible. The opportunity lies in making this complexity work for clients, not simply hiding it.
Why is wealth transmission accelerating this transformation?
Generational renewal is becoming a powerful accelerator. With substantial volumes of savings expected to change hands in the coming years, a new generation of investors is entering the market with fundamentally different expectations. They want greater transparency, more freedom and genuine choice. They are less receptive to closed models and standardised propositions. For traditional players, the challenge is to evolve without abandoning their fundamentals: introducing greater openness while preserving efficiency and simplicity. One approach is emerging: a hybrid model capable of combining the fluidity of integrated journeys with the richness of open architecture. Technology is essential to this evolution, but human intelligence remains at its core. Tomorrow, wealth advice will no longer be defined by the model itself, but by the ability to adapt to client expectations, technological change and the challenges of a market undergoing profound transformation.
